For pulling my stuck ass out of the drifting snow today. And a big FUCK YOU to the Monroe County Road Commission and Bedford Twp. in general for not plowing the damn roadway in the first place. I was traveling up a county road this morning on my way to an appointment, when the road crossed an open field, and it was covered in a foot+ of drifting snow. By the time I realized it was that deep, about 30 - 50 feet in, I was well and truly stuck. I walked about a 1/4 mile to a house, and the owner, who was totally cool, got into his Dodge, drove me to my car, we hooked up a chain to the tow hook on my car, and pulled me back to open roadway. Thanks, dude, you saved my entire day from going to complete shit.
Not my car, but damn close and pretty much sums up what it looked like.

When all else fails, find an honest man with a truck.

Oh, well CLEARLY you just don't know how to drive in snow. I used to pedal my fixie through stuff twice that deep in my bare feet.

Oh, I know. Snow tires, blah, blah, blah. If not for the guy in the truck, I was well & truly screwed. No wallet, no cell phone. It was a hurry up morning getting the kids to school, and I left the house without either of these two essential items. It could have been a really bad day.

I wasn't actually trying to lecture you. But that does sound like a bad set of circumstances you got yourself into. All you can do is count your blessings and live and learn.
I hope you have a way to thank the guy, or compensate him later. You know where he lives, so you could leave a thank you note with a full case of awesome beer on his porch.

Cool people are the coolest. When I was 18 I came around a corner to fast on a back road in the middle of January.I had only had my licence for a couple months so I wasn't experienced enough to correct the "drift" I put my car into. I over corrected and ended up in the ditch. I couldn't even open my front doors. I started walking to the closest house, and before I even got there a guy pulled out of the drive way in a 4x4 S-10 with a tow rope. He said this was the 6th time that winter he's had to pull some one out of the ditch in after that corner. After we got my car out I tried to hand the dude a 20 and he was like "Don't worry about it kid, shit happens."
